David Chu, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.A.D.

Chief Medical Officer

David Chu is the Chief Medical Officer of Castle Creek Biosciences, Inc. Dr. Chu has over 20 years of experience in dermatology, academic research, clinical practice, and pharmaceutical development.

He previously served as Vice President, Clinical Development, at Arcutis Biotherapeutics, where he led clinical programs that supported the approval of multiple indications for Zoryve, a topical nonsteroidal therapy for several inflammatory skin diseases. Prior to that, Dr. Chu served as Director, Clinical Development in Immunology/Dermatology, at Janssen Pharmaceuticals.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Chu served as Director of Contact Dermatitis at Scripps Clinic Medical Group. He was also an Assistant Clinical Professor in Dermatology at NYU and an American Cancer Society postdoctoral fellow at Rockefeller University conducting epithelial stem cell research. He has authored general and pediatric dermatology textbook chapters on structure and function of the skin, including the proteins/genes involved in the pathogenesis of epidermolysis bullosa.

Dr. Chu is a board-certified dermatologist and Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. He earned his M.D. and Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of California, San Francisco. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Biochemical Sciences from Harvard University.
